19 December 2025 marked a significant milestone for Tutu Rural Training Centre (TRTC) as seventeen (17) staff members proudly graduated with a Certificate IV in Upskilling Instructors in TVET Programme Development and Delivery, awarded by Fiji National University (FNU).
This achievement is the result of a strong collaborative partnership between the Department of Australian Partnerships (DAP), Fiji National University (FNU), and Tutu Rural Training Centre (TRTC), aimed at strengthening the quality, relevance, and delivery of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in rural and community-based settings.
Strengthening Quality Formation at TRTC
The Certificate IV programme focused on equipping instructors with advanced skills in:
- Competency-based training and assessment
- Adult learning principles
- TVET curriculum design and development
- Effective delivery methods for diverse learners
- Monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement of training programmes
For TRTC, whose core mission is the formation of Young Farmers, Single Women, and Farming Couples, this qualification directly enhances the centre’s capacity to deliver high-quality, learner-centred, and outcomes-based training rooted in the realities of rural livelihoods and the vanua.
A Strategic Investment in People
The graduation of these 17 staff members aligns closely with TRTC’s Strategic Plan 2024–2028, particularly in the areas of:
- Improving the quality of formation and training delivery
- Building staff capability and institutional sustainability
- Strengthening post-training support and social innovation initiatives
By investing in staff professional development, TRTC continues to ensure that its formation programmes remain relevant, accredited, and responsive to emerging challenges such as climate change, food security, social enterprise development, and sustainable agriculture.
Partnership That Delivers Impact
TRTC acknowledges with gratitude the support and collaboration of:
- Fiji National University (FNU) for its academic leadership and programme delivery
- DAP for its commitment to capacity building and skills development
- TRTC leadership and Board for prioritising staff development as a pathway to long-term impact
This partnership demonstrates how collaborative efforts can strengthen rural training institutions and contribute meaningfully to national TVET goals and sustainable development priorities.
Looking Ahead
As these newly qualified instructors return to their respective roles, TRTC looks forward to:
- Enhanced training methodologies across all programmes
- Stronger integration of TVET standards into community-based formation
- Improved outcomes for participants and their communities
This graduation is not just an individual achievement—it is a collective step forward for TRTC, its participants, and the rural communities it serves.
Congratulations to all 17 graduates on this outstanding achievement. Your dedication and commitment continue to build a stronger, more resilient future for rural Fiji.
